Ron Bayuzick, Artist, Sculptor, Teacher

Born in 1943 in Pittsburgh PA, Ron Bayuzick grew up in a very artistic environment.  Much of the artistic influence can be attributed to his parents from their weekly trips to the Carnegie Museum art classes, and by studying music in school.  With an undergraduate degree in Arts Education from  Edinboro University and a Master of Fine Arts from Kent State, Bayuzick was well prepared for the true meaning of a working artist.  Once he completed his formal education, Bayuzick spent 30 years working as an art teacher at Stow High School in Ohio.  After retiring, he then continued working as a teaching artist with local non-profit organizations and making sculptures for community projects and paintings for sale in local galleries.
His paintings can be found in several permanent corporate collections, notably Erie Insurance, PNC, and Mercyhurst University as well as many private collections .  His sculptures have also been widely exhibited in the Tri-State Area including  in Erie’s Bayfront Convention Center, the Erie Art Museum, the Community Arts and Industry project at The Lovell Place in Erie and on 12th Street near Greengarden, a community arts project in Grove City Pennsylvania with George Jr. Republic, The Sensory Winery in Ripley, New York, on the campus of Edinboro University and a new mural at the Pontiac (baseball) Field in Bayview Park.
As part of the Erie Arts & Culture “Artists in Residence Program”, Bayuzick has been involved with many different schools, the first being George Jr. Republic, where he worked for 5 years with the students welding sculptures for Grove City parking lots and the local theater.
“Kids as Curators” was a program through the Erie Art Museum where he worked with “gifted” students at the Collegiate Academy High School and the Erie Day School in the Arts Program to teach the students about the Art Museum.
Working at Erie County Vo-Tech as Artist in Residence in the Arts And Industry Project, Bayuzick brought sculpture and welding to new levels in this vocational tech school.  Here he guided the students to make a full size horse pulling the earth using scrap metal parts donated by Gene Davis Steel Supply and Fabrication in Erie. Here the students learned the additive process of sculpture construction.
Bayfront Center for Maritime Studies in cooperation with Sarah Reed Children’s Center has developed a program known as The Bayfront Alternative Education Program.    Working with  the guidelines incorporated by Erie Arts and Culture, Bayuzick attempted to introduce art as a social media.  He has emphasized the fact that art is part of every culture and an important part of every culture.
The most recent project - the mural at Pontiac Field -  was a collaboration between three local artists; Ron Bayuzick, Tom Ferraro, and Ed Grout. This project was initiated by Our West Bayfront.org.
At 77, Bayuzick continues the pursuit of educating children in the arts, participating in community public art projects  and contemplates every opportunity presented to him.
